Mark McKerracher's presentation detailed how Oxford uses Figshare's platform for sharing their research data (datasets in semi-active use), differentiating it from their institutional repository, Aura.

The presentation showcased two in-house tools developed using the Figshare API:

SDS Widget: A snippet of HTML code that pulls a configurable gallery of Figshare items (from a group, project, or collection) into a bespoke project website, allowing for searching and reordering of the items.

Bushel Web App: A major tool designed for the batch creation of Figshare items, including the bulk upload of files. It operates via an intuitive, step-by-step workflow where users upload an Excel spreadsheet containing all necessary metadata. Bushel performs critical validation checks on this metadata (e.g., checking for blank mandatory fields, correct item types, valid JSON formatting, and file presence) and identifies duplicate item names before the final upload.

The recording also covers the maintenance requirements for these custom tools and the granularity of validation performed by Bushel.
